Honest Musky Guide Service is dedicated to guiding anglers of all types to the highest quality multi-specie fishing opportunities in MN, WI, and other areas of the country. In true Honest Musky fashion, we are completely honest with our clients. If we don’t think the bite is on we will give our clients the option to cancel and receive a full refund of deposit on trips they have booked.
Angling opportunities available to our clients will vary throughout the season and from year to year. Ever changing fisheries, highly variable weather conditions, and the progression of the seasons cause hot bites for a multitude of species to appear in brief windows all around the upper Midwest. Our clients are encouraged to book trips in advance, but updates via the “hot bites” area of honestmusky.com and informative emails will give our regular and first time clients alike the opportunity to take advantage of these great hot bite opportunities.
Honest Musky Guide Service provides its clients with all tackle (except fly fishing tackle), bait, water craft, drinking water, and in some cases transportation. Food and beverage are provided in some packages. Most of the time, beverages other than water shall be provided by clients. We also provide digital photos of catch, and will clean and package any fish taken into possession. All appropriate clothing and rain gear (a must on many trips) shall be provided by the individual client. Our main boat is a fully rigged Ranger 188 VX Comanche, but smaller craft are used on waters that the larger boat cannot access and/or navigate. Unique opportunities for fishing remote locations on foot also exist.
Honest Musky guide service caters to the needs of many different types of anglers. We offer excellent fishing opportunities to anglers of all ages and physical capabilities. We offer trips to single anglers, pairs of anglers, groups of anglers, and families. Our techniques and opportunities are unique, fun, interesting, and often are not offered by other guide services. The opportunities available from the Honest Musky Guide Service are numerous and ever evolving, but the following are basic packages that will be available in 2011. Metro Fishing Packages
These guided fishing packages take place on lakes and rivers in the metro area of the Twin Cities in MN. They include open water opportunities from May through November. Available species include: musky, bass, walleye, catfish, and panfish. These are excellent trips for anglers of all types, ages, and experience levels. All anglers are different, and therefore each angler will be treated as an individual so that they may have the best, most productive experience possible. These trips can be serious and goal oriented, relaxed days of family fishing, or anything in between. Clients can concentrate on one specie of fish or make it a day of multi-species action. Guides use effective, interesting, fun, and often very unique techniques. Every Honest Musky metro fishing package will be highly entertaining and educational and likely full of action. Trips can easily be tailored to almost any local angling needs, depending on seasonal fish movements and activity levels. Trips will accommodate 1-3 anglers depending package specifics.

Multi-Species Family Fishing
We offer action packed multi-species fishing trips on relaxing safe waters for up to 4 anglers. Family fishing trips can take place across the upper mid-west, but excellent opportunities exist close to the Twin Cities Metro area. Target species on these trips will be a combination of bluegill, pumpkinseed, black crappie, yellow perch, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, northern pike, rainbow trout, and/or musky. These trips will be highly educational in all angling aspects. They will also be action packed, fun, and intentionally designed to keep the interest of young anglers. Lakes with clear water will be chosen specifically to enhance the visual angling experience, educational value, and overall fun of the trip. Several different types of live bait will also be used to make for productive fun fishing. Depending on season and legality, a combination of minnows, shiners, chubs, suckers, panfish, frogs, live crayfish, crayfish tails, worms, night crawlers, and/or leeches will be used. Many kids just enjoy playing with the bait. Top quality gear is provided for all levels of angling skill. It doesn’t matter if your child has never fished before, they will catch a lot of fish on these trips. Honest Musky Family Fishing Trips are one of the best ways to introduce a child to fishing. They will likely be hooked for life. Early childhood is the best time to get kids interested in positive activities like fishing that will keep them away from negative activities later in life.

River Float Trips
Streams and rivers contain some of the best fisheries in the upper mid-west due to lack of fishing pressure and overall health of the ecosystems. Rivers are under-utilized because it takes more work to fish them. However, the work is well worth while as action can be spectacular when conditions are right. Musky action can be tremendous. Smallmouth bass action is often nonstop with very large individuals encountered. River sturgeon bites are also amazing at times, and sturgeon offer the ultimate power house battle. Excellent action for many other species is also available depending on the season and particular ecosystem. For example; panfish, walleye, catfish, and even trout can also be worked into the mix. Float trips are tailored to the individual goals of the client. We can stick to a single specie, try for a little bit of everything, or make a plan for anything in between the two extremes. Trips last from one to several days. Primary waters will be the Mississippi, St. Croix, Chippewa, Wisconsin, and Flambeau Rivers. However, other options are available and more become available all the time as we continue to explore and scout for our clients.

Fall Musky Live Bait Trips
These are great trips for new musky anglers. The bite is very consistent, and client effort is very minimal (until it is time to set the hook and fight the musky in). These trips can take place at many locations throughout the upper mid-west, and the twin cities metro area lakes offer quality and convenience for this type of fishing. For the busy Twin Cities area resident who wants to catch a musky but has very little time, this is the perfect opportunity. These trips are also a great opportunity for business travelers in the Twin Cities. Excellent populations of muskies can be found right in the metro, and fall sucker action is the most consistent bite of the year. We can accommodate up to 3 anglers on metro trips. In other areas, we can accommodate up to 2 or 3 anglers depending on the body of water, local regulations, and client expectations.

Catfish/Sturgeon/Walleye Trips
These trips will be held mostly on the Mississippi and St. Croix Rivers near the Twin Cities metro area. Each trip will be a combination of 2 or 3 of the above mentioned species and each reaches trophy potential in these waters. Sometimes other species are available on these trips. Using a multitude of various live and other natural baits, action can be tremendous. These trips often take place over night to ensure the best action for nocturnal species. These trips are excellent for those who want to experience quality big fish action, but have little time to leave the cities or have no desire to put in the rigorous work of other big fish pursuits. They are also great for business travelers in the area. During these trips, clients can mostly sit back and enjoy life until it is time to reel in a big fish. To keep things interesting on these trips, we do not just put out a bunch of lines baited with pre-packaged catfish nuggets. We use live and other natural baits including: fathead minnows, chubs, shiners, suckers, frogs, leeches, worms, night crawlers, and cut fish to ensure maximum results and client satisfaction. These trips are designed for up to 3 anglers.

Standard Musky Fishing Trips
These trips consist of fishing for muskies on lakes, reservoirs, and large rivers by casting artificial lures to various structures. It is labor intensive for the client, but results can be tremendous. Preferred locations vary throughout the year based on seasonal changes and weather conditions.

Fishing on Foot
Some of the best fishing in the upper mid-west takes place on waters that are not accessible by vehicles and/or water craft. Most of this fishing is on streams and small rivers in rugged wild terrain. These waters in the upper mid-west offer excellent fishing for many species, but my favorites are musky, trout, and salmon. These are excellent opportunities for fly anglers to try their hand at taking a musky. This fishing can be tremendous and very rewarding, but it is physically challenging and taxing. Locations can be remote and terrain can be treacherous. These trips are recommended only for those who are confident in their health and physical capabilities.

North Woods Retreats
The north woods of WI and MN are an excellent place to vacation and fish. The environment is relaxing and fishing locations are numerous and very high quality. Rental cabins are also available in great number across this region and offer comfortable accommodations and excellent access to great fishing. In these packages, we take care of all arrangements for fishing, lodging, and food. A true north woods fishing experience with a guide who is also your personal chef. Imagine excellent fishing, hearty breakfasts, and elegant cuisine every night for dinner. Scheduling of meals and fishing will be customized to meet the needs of the individual client. Any and all north woods angling experiences are available. Small or large parties can be accommodated. Rates will vary based on location, accommodations, angling expectations, and desired cuisine (almost any type of food is available).

Have Your Own Fishing DVD or Blue Ray
Most Honest Musky fishing experiences can be captured on digital 1080i footage, edited, and transferred to DVD and/or Blue Ray for our clients. Call and/or email for rates and availability.
